That seems incredible, in my mind you are still a little girl as I last saw you.

You probably remember that I tried to contact you when you reached 18 but I know that you were told not to answer the door. I dread to think what you have been told about me and the rest of your family to make you not want to know any of us even after all this time.

You should know that your Dad is a lovely man who tried very hard to be in contact with you but to no avail, no matter how many court orders he got. He supported you to adulthood even though he was never allowed to see you. The tens of thousands of dollars he spent in fighting for his rights put him into terrible debt and he eventually gave up, knowing that you would not likely want to know him after all that time.

He is not what you have probably been told but a nice man who led a good life. The only hurtful thing he did to your mother was to ask for a divorce when it became apparent that they were not suited. This was very difficult for her and she became very bitter towards all of us. She kept you from us - even from your grandparents who loved you very much.

Your Dad is a successful man who held important positions in the government, was a college professor and is now happily married and living in the U.S. He would love to know you, as would I. Your Dad will soon by 75 years old so if you are curious, it would not be wise to delay and none of knows how long we have on this earth.

I wish you the best for your birthday and you life and would love to hear from you.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-43961873530140858422010-11-29T11:52:00.003-05:002010-11-29T12:08:54.664-05:00Wikileaks vs Claire McCaskillIt's very interesting following the Wikileaks drama in the U.S. It is, of course, serious for American international relationships and many intimate contacts and countries will be reluctant to share information for fear of being revealed. Some contacts may be in serious jeopardy in their own country.

Even knowing that the document dump was about to happen it appears the U.S. was impotent to block it. By contrast, on the weekend I googled Claire McCaskill just out of curiosity to see her background. No special reason, just interested. To my surprise, I noted that her first husband had been murdered. I decided to look for more information on him and his death but to no avail. It seems that all the sites related to this have been blocked. Hmm, curious.

Isn't it amazing that a junior senator or the government can arrange to have all information related to her husband's death blocked and yet the United States of America cannot arrange to block Wikileaks when it is revealing serious classified information.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-89376319534651050382010-09-14T09:32:00.002-04:002010-09-14T10:08:59.574-04:00Whites are Racist!!It has been an interesting year in the world, especially the United States. The President is attempting to dismantle the U.S. as we know it and to remake it into the country that he would prefer. He has surrounded himself with extreme left people. Marxists, Communists and former terrorists and yet Americans dare not complain or they are called "racist".

Members of Congress complain they have been spit on and called "racist" and yet there is not one iota of proof, in spite of the fact that cellphone cameras abound and manage to record almost everything of interest that occurs in this world.

Citizens who criticize President Obama are called "racist" in spite of the fact that their criticisms seem (to an outsider Canadian) to be justified.

When people who find it insulting for a Muslim to build a mosque almost on the side of the twin towers, they are called "racist" even though it is Muslim custom to build mosques on the sites of their great victories.

It is becoming more and more difficult to voice an opinion in the free world without being called a "racist". We are so filled with guilt that we just adhere to these new rules of conduct. Unfortunately, others are not bound to adhere to similar rules in relation to whites.

The following came to me in an email. I do not know if it is actually what Michael Richards said in court but it could have been. It voices what many people think but are afraid to say for fear of being branded "racist". My fear is that we are giving up all our freedoms bit by bit because of political correctness (which others are not required to respect) and the fear of being branded "racist".

I have been wondering about why Whites are racists, and no other race is .....

Proud to be White

Michael Richards makes his point ....
Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point.

This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. I'm not even American and I can see what this cartoon means. The "stimulus bill" was not written by President Obama - he didn't even give any direction as to what should be in the bill and he certainly didn't read it before it was signed. It was written by Nancy Pelosi and edited by the Senate Democratic members.

It's pretty clear that the cartoon is suggesting that the bill was written by a bunch of monkeys - a pretty good suggestion. This bill has almost no stimulus in it and is just a vehicle to implement a left wing wish list.

Certainly, it is in bad taste (as most political cartoons are) and I guess it was unwise to use it when a sort-of black President was just elected. What is amazing to me is that it is always blacks who take anything like this to suggest that there is a connection between people with dark skin and primates. The same happened when the basketball player and the model (I can't remember who either was) were featured on the cover of a prominent magazine. I just thought of it as a comparison between a huge, strong sports figure and a slim, delicate model. The monkey-black connection would never have occurred to me if I had seen it on the newsstand and I was interested to see that it was blacks, such as the ladies on The View, who made that connection as they did again today with the cartoon.

Get over it people. Blacks are successful in every part of society. You have a quasi-black President and numerous other blacks in top government positions in this new regime. Blacks were prominent in President Bush's regime. There is no part of American life where blacks cannot succeed if they wish to. It gets so boring to hear blacks in the media connect everything to skin colour when it is no longer relevant.

Yes, of course, there are some white Americans who are bigoted against blacks. There are also whites who dislike Asians, Europeans or anyone who is not like them. There are also Asians who dislike whites and blacks and anyone who is not like them. There are certainly blacks who do not like whites and also do not like blacks who originate from other areas of the world from them. Bigotry is not limited to whites or anyone else but, for the most part anyone can get ahead if they just ignore the bigots of any stripe.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-72335553847523312162008-10-23T00:19:00.003-04:002008-10-23T01:14:25.430-04:00Get ready, the Marxists are coming!I just love this U.S. election campaign. Our Canadian campaign recently was called, campaigned and voted on in six short weeks. How mundane! Yours, on the other hand, seems to have been going on for years.

Although I am fascinated by American politics in general, this election has me completely stymied. The American and world media have decided on whom they wish to have elected and will not countenance any comments, true or false, that put their choice in a bad light.

Obama prays for over 20 years with a man who hates whites in general and American whites in particular. He says that if that Jesus is not a black man then he can go to hell. When this is pointed out to Obama, he states that he never heard any sermons or comments like that from his pastor and outwardly, at least, cuts of his ties with him. The media says "Oh, well then, that's okay."

He sits on boards with an unashamed American terrorist responsible for bombings that actually killed other Americans. He works with him on school funding; holds his first state senate campaign in the terrorist's home and yet since the man was a terrorist when Obama was 8 years old, Americans are told that it doesn't matter and that they are just nit picking and mean spirited.

His connections to Louis Farrakhan and Kenyan terrorists, we are told, are nothing to be concerned about. The fact that his own brother (half-brother, I know) lives in a shack with a rag over the door while trying desperately to educate himself and yet nobody asks why Obama hasn't helped him. He and his wife would certainly be considered very well off and the cost of assisting a Kenyan relative would be negligible to the Obamas.

Mr. Obama has little national experience and little state experience. Most of his time in the U.S. Senate has been spent running for President. If campaign ads suggest that he may not have enough experience for the most important job in the world, they are dismissed as negative advertising.

He has virtually no experience in world politics but because citizens of other countries treat him like a rock star, he gets a pass.

I actually heard a Chicago radio station tonight asking people how they planned to vote and why. One woman actually stated that she would rather look at him than John McCain for the next 4 years. That's certainly a novel reason to vote for someone who will have complete control of her country for at least for years - complete because it seems certain that the Commons and Senate will be democrat as well. An interesting reason to select someone for the number one job in the entire planet.

The democratic candidate, Joe Biden, runs off at the mouth and says things that are embarrassing to the campaign and the press says "Oh, that's just Joe." Let Palin make a small mistake and she is the dumbest person ever.

Although every aspect of Sarah Palin's appearance has been questioned, I haven't heard anyone asking what happened to the lines in Joe Biden's forehead (A little collagen anyone?) or why he seems to have more hair that he did when it was a darker colour.

By contrast, the treatment of John McCain and Sarah Palin by the media and democrats in general is vicious. Mr. McCain is dismissed as old and doddering although he certainly seems to have all his marbles and has a mountain of experience compared to Obama. Mr. McCain does not have the questionable associates that Mr. Obama does but that is apparently not important. I guess he is just not "cute" enough for the American voter.

Sarah Palin, who didn't ask for the job of V.P., on the other hand has been savaged by all but the republican base. The media, who are so disinterested in Obama's background, have poked and prodded every aspect of her life. They dismiss her as inexperienced although she has much more relevant experience than Obama. They make fun of her accent although there seem to be an awful lot of odd accents in the Senate and the House. They seem disgusted that she enjoys the outdoors and can actually bring home dinner for the family. They resent that she actually needs a wardrobe for the campaign.

On The View today, they discussed that she had bought new clothes and makeup. Joy Behar actually stated that the makeup purchase was probably lipstick for the pig! Can you imagine anyone having the temerity to make a comment like that about Mrs. Obama? Can you imagine the whining, crying and gnashing of teeth. But, since it was directed at Sarah Palin, it was apparently quite funny.

She has been attacked although she is only trying to serve her country - surely something to admire, not to discredit. Her husband has been attacked because he doesn't have a "normal" job like others in the Beltway. Her children have been attacked - even her son-in-law to be. The every courteous Joy Behar very nastily chided him for not being in college at 18 years old and asked "What the heck was wrong with him?" Although he has stepped forward to do what he considers his duty, people are disgusted that he will not be going to college at this time.

I am quite resigned to the fact that Canada's closest neighbour and biggest trading partner is apparently going to be governed by a Marxist but I fear for all of us. I hope that we all make it through and that Americans do not lose too many of their rights - rights that were given to them by spectacular men at the birth of the United States of America. American Democrats, like Canadian Liberals, always think that they are smarter than you, can spend money better than you and feel that you certainly need more laws to control you so you don't think for yourself too much.

God help us all!Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-37687310216392777852008-10-08T18:53:00.002-04:002008-10-08T19:14:22.076-04:00Shame on CNN - Shame on John Roberts!Although I am Canadian, I am fascinated by the American elections which are obviously far too long but infinitely more interesting than ours in Canada. I should probably mind my own business but the bad reporting that I have been viewing on CNN is making me crazy!

It was always my (apparently mistaken) impression that news people should present the news in a unbiased manner and that commentators present their own interpretation of the news based on their beliefs. When I turn in to Glenn Beck on CNN, I know that I am going to hear information from a conservative. When I tune in to Lou Dobbs on CNN, I know that he is a registered independent who doesn't much like anyone. But I really did think that news people held themselves apart from this and just presented the news.

It seems that I am uninformed and that the news is there to be molded and shaped to the beliefs of the news person doing the reporting. It also seems that, for the most part, the news people on CNN are Democrats who are unable to present unbiased news. In their choice of words and the manner of presentation, these news people could easily be on the Democratic payroll.

It is absolutely appalling that people who present the news should distort it to further their own political beliefs and choices. This evening, I watched John Roberts, a former Canadian himself, as he discussed last night's debate and managed to demean and insult and misinterpret John McCain in his every word and action. Obama, on the other hand, must surely be sporting a halo due to his intelligence and good manners and good policies - according to John Robers' interpretations.

Shame on you JD! You used to be a decent news person but these days you should be embarrassed at the way you are presenting the facts of this election. If not, I am certainly embarrassed for you and for CNN.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-10802535310962853132008-03-16T13:00:00.003-04:002008-03-16T13:12:18.995-04:00I was away that day --yeah, that's it!Barack Obama apparently went to the same church for 20 years. He was married there and his children were born there. In his book, he credits his Pastor with being his mentor in life.

Now, videos have appeared of his Pastor stating that the U.S. created Aids to kill off black men, that the U.S. deserved to be attacked by terrorists, that the hymn should not be God Bless America but instead God Damn America. There are videotaped sermons in which he rails against white people including Hillary Clinton, a woman who has for her whole adult life fought against discrimination against blacks. as well as all those rich white men who run the country. Why our food manufacturers are not required to tell us when their products contain ingredients from this backward, conscienceless country?

I realize that it is probably impossible to completely boycott Chinese products, but I, for one, am going to give it a try. Although I respect our Canadian athletes and wish them the best in the Olympics, I will not be watching any of it on our state-run television station. This is such a simplistic and self-serving question that it is an insult to the intelligence of his constituency. Of course, serious or dangerous offenders should spend their time in jail.

Perhaps the bigger question is why so many people are in jail for charges like trying to contact their children after a divorce or why so many wives are able to deny visitation with children or why so many women lay false charges against their husbands, many of which are dropped after the man spends time in jail and spends huge amounts of money defending himself and why these women are never charged with laying false charges or contempt of court.

Maybe he should look into actual conditions in jails and think about whether they actually do help real offenders come back into society as productive citizens. Some of the questions he should look into are:
- why up to 50% of the men in provincial jails are there on domestic charges and whether this fact suggests that the family courts are out of control and dedicated to breaking up families rather than protecting women and children.
- why we are so political correct that we have female guards in these prisons who actually run from any violence and put inmates into danger by their absence.
- why most of the drugs in jails are brought in by guards themselves and that often female guards bring them in their vagina.
- why medications are funded for only 5 days regardless of need.
- why a jail that has completely separate sections has a problem in only one section and then locks down the entire jail for 60 days and why the prison would offer cabbage during that time apparently thinking that it would be a huge joke on people who are confined in small spaces.
- why homosexual guards often molest prisoners.
- why guards actually open cell doors when the toughest prisoners (servers) demand it in order to wreak their vengeance on someone they feel is their enemy.
- why many female guards have sex with prisoners on a regular basis.
- why most people in jails actually shouldn't be there and there is no societal gain in having them there.

Perhaps if my MP and his colleagues spent more time asking these questions and actually visiting jails and talking to prisoners without their overseers present, they might have a better idea of what is actually happening in our prisons and a better idea of how to improve our prison systems.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-37139452707586026712008-03-13T23:59:00.002-04:002008-03-14T00:27:35.792-04:00Poor Michelle Obama??Although I am Canadian, I find American politics fascinating and am an avid news hound. I am finding the current run for the Democratic party leadership particularly interesting. The politics surrounding a female candidate with a wayward husband and a semi-black young man with a terrifically opinionated wife is a study in political correctness and an illustration of how completely stupid it can be.

For example, I keep hearing of how Michelle Obama grew up in poverty. Now, she did live with her brother and parents in a one-bedroom apartment but other than that I am having trouble with the poverty part. Her father worked for the city and she is quoted as saying "The only amazing thing about my life is that a man like my father could raise a family of four on a single city worker's salary."

I am older than Mrs. Obama but, unlike her, I never thought of myself as growing up poor. My father spent five years overseas in the army, never even once getting home for a visit. When he returned in 1945, I was five years old, having been born after he left. We were fortunate to be able to have a "wartime house" since my father was a veteran - not fancy and very small but we liked it. My father brought back from the war a very serious and painful ulcer which would now be considered a disability but that was not even considered after that war. For many years he was only able to work sporadically and spent a lot of time in the hospital recovering from hemorrhaging. During this time, we lived on my mother's salary as a secretary, a very low paying position then compared to administrative assistants now. From her meager salary, it was necessary to pay the medical bills incurred by my father's illness as well as all the other household financial requirements yet strangely, I didn't consider myself particularly poor. We had good quality food, not fancy but good. We had clothes to wear and we had fun. When we were in our early teens we all had part time jobs out of which we were required to pay board.

I know many people who grew up in similar circumstances but I don't believe I have ever heard even one talk about growing up poor and I don't know anyone who was amazed that their parents could manage on one salary.

I guess it reads well in a political bio to say that she grew up poor and I guess if you are someone like Anderson Cooper her background sounds poor but to millions of Americans and lots of Canadians, her upbringing and education is something to be envious of and the "poor" label is really something of an insult.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-55662561921880869552008-03-01T19:48:00.002-05:002008-03-01T19:54:46.699-05:00Male/Female InequalityCan you imagine a sitcom in which the star, a man, would throw something in anger at a woman? It would never happen. It seems to be ok, and maybe even funny though, if a woman throws something at a man.

Case in point - in the trailer for the new Canadian sitcom, the star is furious and she throws something sharp at her boyfriend. He ducks and it pierces the wall behind his head. This is supposed to be funny. Would it be considered funny if a man did it? I think not.

The physical abuse of men is so common in the media that nobody even notices it. Woman punch, slap and push men with regularity on TV and in movies all the time.

Why is that ok?

The only time you see a man hit a woman in the media is shortly before he is arrested.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-49515840242179868592008-02-24T17:11:00.002-05:002008-02-24T17:29:44.713-05:00Obama Just Might Be the Anti-ChristFor some time now I have been watching Barak Obama and feeling strangely uneasy. When asked why, I really couldn't put my finger on it.

Maybe it's because his birth religion is Muslim and it usually seems that Islam trumps all when push comes to shove.

Maybe it's because he never, ever mentions that his mother is white and he was raised by his white grandparents in a white world and yet he promotes the fact that he is "black". I don't believe he ever visited his other family in Africa until this election.

Maybe it's because he belongs to a church that has a pastor who is decidedly anti-white and anti-white American and pro radical blacks such as Louis Farrrakhan, Nation of Islam leader.

Maybe it's because he has not much experience in politics and has not, until last week, made any real policy statements other than that he would talk to the dictators of the world and I guess that would make them our friends. The policy statements that he finally made involved spending huge amounts of money in a time when the West is in a serious financial situation with China owning most of the US debt.

Maybe it is because the Hollywood "stars" all seem to love him so much. That would be the same people who revere Fidel Castro and think that he is a genius in spite of the fact that they would have been rounded up and put to death, like many Cuban writers and artists were, if they did, in fact, live in Cuba.

Maybe is the extreme adoration that is going on with most Americans for this charismatic orator in spite of the fact that he has never proven himself to be a good politician or a leader or to have any of the experience that is certainly needed to be the leader of the free world.

Or, maybe it's because so much of this situation is pretty much as described in the Bible about the coming of the anti-Christ.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-2615602130111582992008-02-24T17:03:00.002-05:002008-02-24T17:11:03.722-05:00Conservatives of Ontario UniteYou have had your vote and now it is time to unite behind John Tory. I realize that some of you would have liked an 80% approval vote but 67% is a win no matter how you look at it.

Please set aside any bad feelings that you have and work at making people feel positive about Conservatives for Ontario. John Tory is a good, well-meaning man who made a "political" mistake in the last election. Unfortunately (or fortunately) he tries to do what he thinks is right even though it may not be the expedient political thing to do. I am sure he has learned from the last election and will be a regular politician next time saying only what will get him and you elected - too bad it has to be that way.

For the sake of those of us in Ontario who cannot stand the lying Liberal way and the lying Dalton, please work with him and show Ontarioans that Conservatism is right for Ontario in the interim and in the next election.

It's time for the Conservatives to return to power and work toward a better Ontario for all of us!Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-23397259756414953242008-02-20T10:22:00.004-05:002008-02-21T10:08:22.627-05:00Boybott LoblawsLoblaws apparently has a problem with shrinkage much of which they are blaming on staff. In order to deal with this problem they will no longer hire anyone with a criminal record. I understand they they have a situation to deal with but I cannot believe that this is a solution which is good for them or for society.

I doubt that people are aware of how many jobs are not available to people with a criminal record of any kind. They cannot be bonded although their record may have nothing to do with theft. They cannot have jobs, such as selling cars, if they require a license. Many, many companies will not hire anyone with a criminal record, no matter what the circumstance.

People say that if you do the crime you must do the time. They want you to straighten up and live right and become a productive member of society but then they make it impossible for you to do so. Nobody wants to take a chance on you so that you can, in fact, become that productive citizen.

Often young people do one stupid thing such as a minor theft or being charged with assault after an altercation. Should they be prohibited from obtaining a job indefinitely for that?

I doubt also that most people are aware of how many people get into the "justice" system and end up with a criminal record although they have not committed a criminal act. The family court system in particular seems to delight in charging men with a vast number of charges when a woman decides to lay a false charge. In order to get out of the situation without bankrupting their entire family to pay legal costs, they are given the option of accepting one or two of the charges (usually their choice) so that the others can be dropped. Often that is the only way to avoid going to jail or financial ruin for their families so they accept a couple of charges even though they may never have committed an illegal act. Unfortunately, what these men are not aware of in pleading to a criminal charge is that they will never see their children again and they will find it almost impossible to get a job of any kind.

How on earth is anyone with a criminal charge expected to become a productive member of society when it is made impossible by that very society? Has Loblaws or other companies who will not even consider people with a criminal record given any thought to what this does to the very society they are so concerned about?

There are many, many people with minor criminal records in this situation and many families who are trying to help them. I think we should all band together and boycott Loblaws and all their other stores such as Zehr's, Super Store, etc. I think we should all send a protest to Loblaws and let them know that we will not be sending any more cash their way until they re-think this policy. Since money is their motivation, let's not give them any of ours. I will be sending my protest. Will you?
Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-30258962002732856222008-01-24T15:56:00.000-05:002008-01-24T16:01:23.058-05:00Kudos to Kellogg'sI know it's a small thing, but congratulations to Kellogg's and their advertising people who have finally portrayed a man in a Rice Crispies commercial as a capable and caring Dad of three little girls. This happens so seldom that it is worth a special mention.

Normally, men are completely absent from the family unit in commercials and Supermom looks after everything including home repairs. If men are portrayed at all, they are complete imbeciles who are not nearly as smart as their children and, of course, only tolerated by their wives. They squeal like teenaged girls when frightened by fibre or by the fact that dinner is ready. Their wives barely tolerate them and the children disregard them as if they were sub-human.

Way to go Kellogg's - we need more of this sort of respectful advertising in a world gone mad.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-9311199723449293672007-12-31T22:49:00.001-05:002007-12-31T22:57:40.745-05:00Happy New Year Everyone!2007 wasn't such a great year for many people. Luckily, NG wasn't there but home with her twins. There was, however, a full contingent of women past their prime but still with long hair - a fashion faux pas for sure.

We were able to follow through Brit's full year of disastrous behavior with an emphasis, of course, on the fact that she is (at this time at least) an unfit mother who doesn't seem too interested in having her children back or even having visitation with them. She won't take drug/alcohol tests as ordered by the court; she doesn't show up for court hearings with the excuse that she is sick but, not sick enough to stay out of the clubs a few hours later; she won't go to parenting classes.

All the while, the children's father, Kevin Federline is apparently keeping a low profile and looking after his sons. This seems to draw the ire of the women guests on the show who sneer when they mention his name. One stated flatly that he only wanted the children for the money. Nothing was mentioned about women who marry men with money - for the money! I guess that is completely different and certainly acceptable. Another sneered that he probably dumps them on a nanny. I bet that this woman, if she has children, dumps them on a nanny but of course that would be different because she needs to be liberated.

Not one thought of the possibility that he loves his sons and wants them to be safe or that he might be a very good father. These new women seem to think that men should be available only to impregnate them and then to stay out of the way and not bother them. They should, of course, send money.

I don't know Kevin Federline but I know that his former girlfriend seems to like him and thinks he is a nice guy who loves his sons. I also know many men who are fine fathers and who love their children. They change diapers, feed babies, get up in the night as much as the mothers of their children.

It is time society took a look at its attitude toward men and that it is time we started to eliminate this new hatred of men that is going on with modern women.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-69938779810703111082007-12-31T15:27:00.000-05:002007-12-31T15:40:28.709-05:00Will the punishment fit the crime?Recently a teen-aged girl was murdered by her father. After he strangled her, he called the police and told them he had just killed his daughter. Although a trial has not been held yet and all the facts are not known, it has been reported by her friends that she had a difficult relationship with her family because she did not wish to wear her hijab. Apparently she would leave her homel dressed as her family wished and then changed before she arrived at school.

In the past in this province's politicians have actually considered seriously the possibility of allowing Muslims to use Sharia Law instead of the court system and rules that the rest of us are bound by. Thankfully, they were shouted down by right-thinking citizens who can see the possibilities of Sharia Law being used to keep Muslim women in their place and to punish them for supposed wrongs under Muslim laws. The politicians argued that it would only be used when acceptable to the accused, not realizing that these women must live with their accusers and that they would not likely dare to ask that Sharia Law not be used.

It will be interesting to watch this case and to see how our liberal court system and judges handle this case. I bet that this man will not do as much time in jail as Robert Latimer has done and will continue doing even though he killed his daughter out of love and his wish to remove her pain.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-72486160580145655132007-12-31T14:55:00.000-05:002007-12-31T15:26:44.917-05:00What's wrong with this picture? It has been so interesting watching the coverage of the death of Benazir Bhutto, the grief that followed and her funeral. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this case, you can read the background here.

From all accounts, Latimer was a good and devoted husband and father who had to watch his 12 year old daughter, who had the mentality of a 3 month old baby, linger in excruciating pain year after year. She was subjected to numerous painful operations by the medical community. There was no hope of improvement, just years and years of pain and there was virtually no quality of life even though critics insisted that her occasional reflexive smiles proved that she was a happy girl. In 1993 Latimer sent his wife and other children off to church, put his daughter into his truck with a hose from the exhaust and watched her go to blessed sleep.

Although I certainly do not favour mercy killings, there have been cases in Canada and other countries where they have occurred without penalty. A Canadian member of parliament was involved in such a case with a woman with Lou Gehrig's Disease and I don't recall him being charged with anything. Of course, he also stole a valuable ring and managed to get away with that too. I guess it depends on who you are and a Saskatchewan farmer doesn't make the cut.

The parole board apparently thinks that this thoughtful, caring man is a dangerous risk to society and that he will go around killing anyone who is disabled. How absurd. The man could not watch his daughter suffer any longer and and be forced to go through more painful operations at the hands of Canadian doctors.

The real problem is that he will not bend to their will; he has not been reprogrammed to think as they would like him to. He still feels that he did the right thing for his child and refuses to play their game and pretend that he is a "sorry boy" who now has the correct mindset.

I understand the fears of the disabled community that they might be fair game if mercy killings were allowed but Latimer has been punished beyond all reason. Real murderers, people who kill out of malice, are released after serving less time than this caring compassionate father. Women who have opted to kill abusive husbands instead of leaving leaving them have been punished much less than this.

Shame on the parole board. Shame on everyone who agrees with extending his punishment even further.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-3247008468260844362007-11-30T15:08:00.000-05:002007-11-30T15:29:04.591-05:00What on earth is going on?How come women on TV, in commercials and programs, are permitted to slap and punch and pinch the noses of men when a man doing the same thing to a woman would cause a backlash that would make an advertiser go out of business?

How come most men in commercials are bozos while women are almost always good looking and much smarter than their men - men who seem to be only tolerated?

How come when a women on TV states that she has left or divorced her husband, the audience cheers wildly and the other women on the show usually say "Way to go girl" or something similar?

Why is it that a woman who injures or kills her child must certainly be suffering post-natal depression or some sort of a mental disturbance while a man in the same situation is a monster?

Why do female teachers who have sexual relations with children get a slap on the wrist and become folk heroes while a man doing the same is disgusting and will go to jail for many, many years?

Why do we call divorced women single moms but we don't call divorced dads single dads? Aren't they still dads?

Why are so many women having children without fathers? Don't they know that a family is important to children? Don't they care that their children will grow up with lots of psychological problems if they don't have a dad?

Why is it that a dad who does not or cannot pay his child support will have his wages garnisheed or he will go to jail but a woman who defies court orders and will not allow her children to visit with their dad suffers no penalty at all?

Why does society presume that a father can easily walk away from his children and not care that he is not allowed to be part of their lives?

Why is it that women's groups are given government support but men's groups are not?

Why are men portrayed on TV as whimpering idiots? What happened to real men?

Why are little boys expected to behave like little girls or else they will be medicated? Doesn't anyone remember that boys used to be expected to act like boys? Islamic people around the world are not the same as the balance of the world and we should stop pretending that they are.

Currently in Sudan a British teacher is in jail for 15 days and will be deported for allowing her students to name a teddy bear "Mohammed." That in itself is ridiculous enough but now the streets are filled with rioters who are calling for her execution!

In Saudi Arabia, a Saudi woman who was gang raped at knifepoint is facing 200 lashes. Her crime? She was in a car with an unrelated man. Their crime? Apparently nothing - she deserved it.

Whenever the subject of Islamic violence is discussed on the radio there are lots of people with middle eastern accents who call in to say that Islam is a peaceful religion that does not call for violence. Unfortunately, after that they always end up saying "But you have to understand...".

No, I do not have to understand any such thing. I believe that the Koran says that anyone who cannot be converted to Islam should be killed. Whether the Koran calls for violence or not, the people who practice Islam seem to be violent in many situations and I think it is time we stopped pretending otherwise. We are so PC that we are unable to actually state the obvious. Islam is spreading all over the world. While we are not producing children, they are. In a few years, we will be in the minority and Islamists will be making the laws.

God help us all when that happens.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-80916743260068528982007-11-21T16:10:00.000-05:002007-11-21T16:20:40.719-05:00Police and RCMP are big fat liarsFor anyone who still trusts the police, Greg Weston's column in yesterday's Toronto Sun should be required reading. These people are apparently incapable of telling the truth under any circumstances. Please take the time to read it.

After you read it, consider how often you have heard the police say that force was necessary because "he was out of control." It is a blessing that so many cameras are around today to record them abusing so many "out of control" people. It seems that they have no negotiation skills and are far too weak to just restrain someone, even when it is four or more to one.

Personally, I have stood in the hall of a courthouse and listened to three of our "finest" discussing what lies they would be prepared to tell in the courtroom so I am under no illusions.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-48541640619673222972007-11-16T23:49:00.000-05:002007-11-17T00:22:47.152-05:00More violence by police!Aren't cellphone cameras a wonderful innovation? It seems that not a day goes by that we aren't treated to the sight of police everywhere abusing their position and treating the citizens they profess to serve and protect with violence. Prior to the proliferation of cameras, that blue wall protected them from our prying eyes while they assured us that they only used force when they were attacked. Now we know better.

The sight of a confused Polish man being killed by the RCMP in Vancouver is enough to make the most jaded of us sick to our stomach. These highly trained thugs, when confronted with one, unarmed man, would no back off and try to locate someone who could communicate with him in his own language even though he had hurt no one and was obviously in distress after being at the airport (with no assistance from any airport personnel) for more than 10 hours. I think that 10 hours in that situation might make anyone want to throw around the furniture. No, within a couple of seconds of arriving they had used a taser on him not once, but twice, the second while he lay writhing on the floor. Even then they found it necessary to kneel on his body and on his head and neck --- as he lay dying. Once they realized what had happened, they all backed off and not even one tried to do any artificial respiration in order to save his life.

They will say that the taser was necessary because he was violent even though people at the scene had been able to talk to him and were completely unafraid of him. One cop was even heard to ask if he could use his taser as they entered the area. Obviously mediation and conflict resolution without violence are beyond their grasp. Shame!

In Toronto, a police officer today started to serve a sentence for beating a young tourist. At the time, the police thug said he was defending himself. Fortunately a camera proved what a liar he was and saved the young man a criminal record and time in jail which is what happens when you assault a police officer. The police offender will serve his sentence on weekends and will likely be reinstated to his job.

Another Toronto police officer was in court today for attending at a strip club against orders and (allegedly) sexually molesting a dancer and threatening her with his gun. Very nice.

In the U.S. a police officer is a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife. We don't know about his first wife but the second has come forward to assert that he beat her up during their marriage. Now we know that it is never a good idea to report this sort of thing to hubby's pals on the force and I guess she was lucky to get away with just a divorce. Wife number three was not quite so fortunate. She ended up dead in a dry bathtub with lots of bruises and injuries on her body. The blue line formed and it was decided that she took a terrible fall. Wife number four is now missing and is almost certainly dead. Serve and protect!

It used to be that when rumors circulated about police violence, most people just thought that the bad guys probably deserved it. It now seems that the tide is turning and most of the callers today and yesterday to local talk radio about the Polish tourist were in favour of the RCMP officers being charged with either murder or manslaughter.

Many police are complete bullies who have been able to hide behind their badges and their friends. They assault people on the street and in custody and lie routinely in court. It is time for people who are in a position to make changes to the system to step forward and really look at what has been going on. The people who are supposed to be "served and protected" deserve nothing less.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655049138058863024.post-61906690301630683292007-11-07T14:45:00.000-05:002007-11-16T23:49:00.885-05:00Tell me again, why is it we need China?I am all for open trade among the countries of the world. I think it is a fine idea that we trade openly with the U.S. and that we are gradually getting rid of all our tariffs and duties. I am in favour of trade with England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, Sweden - almost everyone. But, can someone please tell me why we are courting trade with China?

In a past life I purchased custom merchandise from China but was forced to give it up because the Chinese merchants cannot be trusted. If they can cut a corner to save money, they will - no matter how unsafe their products are.

Recently, toys from China were found to contain unsafe levels of lead and this has probably been the case for many decades. Unfortunately, Canada and the U.S. do not employ enough people to test for this type of problem. Unfortunately also, the Chinese are not even remotely concerned about health and safety and continue to make products that are unsafe even for children. Today it was announced that toys were pulled from the shelves in Australia because they contain beads with a date-rape drug that is potent enough to kill small children. A number of children have been hospitalized because of these toys. The beads contained in a toy called Aqua Dots (Bindeez in Australia) can cause unconsciousness, seizure, drowsiness, coma and death.

Apart from this, the Chinese government regularly imprisons people for disagreeing with them or merely for being part of Falun Gong, a system of meditations, exercise and teachings that renew the mind and body. These stupid old men are so paranoid that they cannot allow any thoughts that differ from theirs.

It seems that the free world is so okay with all this that we just couldn't wait to let China have the Olympics as a reward for their bad behavior. Wouldn't it have been possible for us to tell them that they could not have the Olympics until they straightened up and flew right? Or, are we so desperate to trade with these thugs and criminals that we can overlook anything while driving all manufacturing out of our countries in order to facilitate the criminally low wages and terrible working conditions in China - including child labour.

While I am delighted that the Canadian Prime Minister sat down to meet with the Dalai Lama and that he is supposed to have spoken harshly (?) with Chinese officials about political thuggery, I wish that we, as a country, would have the balls to tell them to get lost until they behave better.

Too much to hope for, I guess.Bonniehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07306096481014631964noreply@blogger.com1
